Weekend hop to Fossheim hotel at Ulsåk in Hemsedalen

March 1 2008

I've just had the shortest job in my career at IT Solutions in Glostrup, having received a much better offer from Rockwool near Roskilde.

Before beginning at my new job, Maria and I took a weekend ski vacation at Hemsedal in Norway.

We went in the little Fiat, which unfortunately required a new windscreen and repainting of the window ledge, as the cracked window was actually caused by corrosion pressing out on the glass.

With me doing the job it was not expensive but interesting.

We went up over the Oresund bridge going via Oslofjordtunnelen to Drammen arriving at 2300, but spending quite some time circling the railway station to find the hotel.
Good and easy journey given that now only something like 40 kms of the road to Oslo is ordinary highway, the rest being dual lane carriageway/motorway.

In Hemsedal we stayed at Fossheim hotel in Ulsåk, Greit helt enkelt.
Only scary issue on the trip from Drammen was the UP checking speed in Hallingdal- but then again: If Im ever caught speeding by norwegian police it wont be a premediated crime, the fines are simply too heay to risk!

The hotel has a danish chef, married to a norwegian jente, and when Maria asked if he spoke norwegian, he didnt, but understood most except real Halligdølsk.

His daughter spoke of course norwegian to her father.

Maria on her side has graduated to do a very nice shopping in Gol and talking with the 'betjent' (insider danish norwegian joke, in danish its a cop, in nowegian its a service person), something she couldnt do last year

We went skiing and Maria goes for it, but has some ski school to come as she has to learn to take parallel turns yet-

Also 'skivett' is limping behind the weather so to say, but at Totten she admitted she needed her balaclava to keep her neck warm.
That day started at -8 c in the valley, so Totten must have been about -12.

Coming down from a cup of chocolate at Fjellkafeen, we started on the journey back to Denmark, making it in 9h 45, even so just missing a ferry at Helsingborg, but at 2300 h I needed a break from driving, anyway.
